The Morning Tableau

The first rays of dawn,
shredding through my blinds,
stencil my blankets
with bright golden stripes.
A ladder of light
rising from night’s depth.

Songs of Morpheus
fade in the distance.
Winds of wakefulness
scatter the remnants
of tenuous dreams.
My dark voyage is done.
