"August 9, 2019" {image;1971183-33%} Prompt: "Do you communicate differently online than you do in person?" Yes, I believe I do. Online I tend to use a lot better grammar than I would if I was speaking. I've also got a bit of a speech impediment so I stammer and hesitate a lot when I am talking, which I do not do writing. Yes, I'd have to say I do communicate differently online than I do in person. I'd say we all do to some extent or the other. Communication is very important. Part of what makes humans unique is our incredible ability to communicate. While I believe other animals communicate with each other, they do not do it to the extent we do. So many people take communication for granted. Some only do it haphazardly. I especially hate it when I read something somebody has written and they use no grammar. Often they don't even use caps. This makes reading very difficult. I didn't like grammar when I was in school, but I took it seriously enough to learn the basics. I feel good communication is very important. The ability to write and to express oneself verbally are paramount in today's world. I feel they always have been. Of all the classes I have taken in six years of college, probably the most important one is speech class. I thank God I finished it with an "A" although my speeches were not the greatest. This class taught me the intricacies of making a speech. Normally, when I speak publicly, I speak without a formal outline. However speech class taught me the importance of planning ahead and carefully considering my words. Words have a lot of impact, and each person hears them based on their personal biases. One person may be having a bad day and the words you use set them on edge. Another may be in a wonderful mood and your words either cheer them up more or bring them down. Words have impact. What has even more impact are our actions. Most communication is spoken by our actions and non-verbal clues. A clinched jaw may communicate that you are tensed. A certain look may say that you are lying. We must be careful with communication! Prompt: "Which cartoon character best represents your personality?" I have often thought about that and I believe it would be either Bugs Bunny. Bugs Bunny takes very little seriously and I try not to take life too seriously. I especially try not to take myself too seriously. Bugs can get into all kinds of scrapes and he always comes out on top. I have a tendency to do that. Over all, I'd have to say that I have been very fortunate in life. In fact, I have been blessed. I don;t have a lot but I have everything I need. Bugs usually has it that way. He has and endless supply of carrots and he has good luck. He has wit and friends, even Elmer Fudd, though Elmer would never admit it. |
