Leaving Africa

It’s not so much a choice point
as a refusal to commit;
if I wait here long enough
I know He’ll give a shove.
Until then I’m quite happy,
here has served me pretty well,
there really is no hurry, is there?
I know I’ll wake somewhere,
and find the answer’s given
and I’ll be then convinced,
determined on direction,
and raring now to go.

Indecision’s not a problem,
if patience is your bag;
there is time enough to play the game
and beat the Spaniards still.*

* Wikipedia has this to say: “On being warned of the approach of the Spanish fleet, Drake is said to have remarked that there was plenty of time to finish the game and still beat the Spaniards, perhaps because he was waiting for high tide.”

Line count (without footnote): 16
Free verse although there are rhymes occasionally.
For Promptly Poetry, Week 2 (2021)
Prompt: Uncertainty: Think about a time in your life when you couldn’t make a decision, and write a poem based on it.
