Now or Then? [Week 27 entry]

Now or Then?


What shall I tell you?
Will you even give heed?
What things could be different,
what changes succeed?

If, early in high school,
you'd bared your soul sooner,
which girl would be with you,
a shy baby boomer?

From college to cadence -
to Army from math -
from one chance encounter
you chose your life's path.

Should leadership schooling
have held greater sway?
Life could have been different,
it's real safe to say.

Though follow-on postings
unchanged may have stayed,
the chances of that aren't real good,
I'm afraid.

You've lived a good life
and so it's not strange,
that what I'd advise you
is just not to change.

So listen, young Mikey,
let this in you dwell:
Do well what you know,
and have faith 'twill be well.
