From Golden Boy to Pariah
From Golden Boy to Pariah
How grateful I was
for the gift of being myself,
lonely soul with a foothold
in the world,
amazed at the chance,
amid the millions
that decided my fate.
And now, looking back,
the irony so striking,
still happy to be,
but anathema to them all
for the sin of being British.
