The Lure of Islands

There was an island in the lake.
Normally out of reach, it beckoned,
promising hidden secrets known to few.
In a hired row boat we approached,
landed, only to discover the mystery
was a toilet for every passing boatload,
a haven for those desperate on the water.
We left and again the island promised.
