Indoor Cat

Indoor cat stares on the outside world
through window raised for air and light,
sniffs the breeze and perks her pointed ears,
tensed at loud and squabbling crows,
the thrum of traffic on distant highway,
the trees in whispered conversation,
gravelled footfall crunches on nature trail,
the heady drug of raucous silence.
