The Shadow Man (Prompt 6)

The man in black was a ghost, the kind of thing that had been around since humans first settled down. The stories were always the same: he'd steal your children and leave you petrified. He'd visit at night when everyone was asleep, creeping across your room before he suddenly disappeared. Then there would be another child missing in the morning. And then another. The man in the shadows, he was called.

And so far, he hadn't shown up on my watch. It was a still, quiet night, and the shadows crept around me. Close. Too close.

I couldn't even scream.
