Week # 10 Prompt:

a single balloon

The Balloon

Wafting through the gentle breeze floated a single balloon. The red plastic orb shone in the setting sun, as if to replicate its rays.

It floated over houses, then trees, then disappeared into the upper reaches of the sky.

Below a little boy cried. He’d lost his grip on the balloon a few moments ago.

“It’s okay, Billy. See how high that balloon is flying?” Billy’s crying made Mom sad.

“It’s gone forever! I’ll never have another balloon so nice!” Billy sobbed.

Mom held Billy’s hand. “That balloon will land in someone’s yard. Soon another little boy will be smiling.”
