Sandwich

Bread and butter, a simple thing,
yet the words do soundly ring,
a no frills meal, a common deal,
the basic fact that makes life real.

Of all the foods it is the staple,
for one, the sandwich, it makes able.
Am I the only one to ponder
what we did eat before this wonder?
