A poem a day for the month of April, National Poetry Writing Month |
| b}I Pledge{/b} I've had enough of grief. I prefer to forget the months while he withered away, giving up bite by bite, step by step, until food was no longer viable and he was too weak to walk. After a year of struggle he slid into death silently with me by his side. I prefer to forget the chaos after, the paperwork, our stuff comingled, the shop full of parts and tools, and the pain of dispursing his things. I prefer to remember 57 years of laughter, love, and challenges. This year, I renew my commitment to live joyfully, to be grateful for each morning, for good health, purpose, love of family and friends, and an occasional adventure. Finally, I'm beginning to rest each night knowing I had a good day. ~~Judi Van Gorder Notes ▶︎ |
