What Is Repentance

Dear God,

Tell me about repentance. What is repentance from Your stand point? Repentance. Is it turning away from the evil in the heart and mind? Is it the most critical movement for mankind? At any time?

It seems to be an outward act. But maybe, more importantly, it could be an inward act. A determination to make You the preeminent part of one's life. Is it not so? You are the Father of all Creation. You seem to desire a people who are Yours and Yours alone. Do I not find in You this loving nature?

But the workings of the human heart have always been from birth set towards evil, idolatry, self worship and greed. At least since we have left Eden. The human heart seems to be "Get more than enough" and the greediness of a soul's longing is always at the center of mankind’s thinking. And yet, time and again, within the boundaries of man’s capability poverty and self extinction is always at the door.

Seeking a sign is futile, because the sun rising speaks of You as "Creator God" ready to bless the one You have made. The change of seasons is a witness of Your eternal goodness to mankind that he not be overly employed in one form of work day after day.

But it is mankind’s selfish view of life that anchors him in the same employment moment after moment, when worship of You, the Father, would imprint on the soul of this same man, the truth of Your loveliness, holiness, kindness and grace.

Seeking a sign apart from Your word too is futile, because the lives of the ancient’s have been etched into the eternal record. The words display for everyone how a relationship with You, God and King, must be lived out. All else, the trusting in one’s own strength, is to be destroyed.

But we can put our trust in You alone and discover that there is a way to thrive in this world now and in the one to come. If one has lived for the glory of self, the way of death, there is but one requirement in this last hour. Repent. Do a hard turn away from past practices and put one’s faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Call out to You alone. You are the God of love who saves.

Luke 11:29-32

“This generation is an evil generation. It seeks for a sign but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. For as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.

The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and Behold, something greater than Solomon is here.

The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.

I will be grateful, filled with joy and anticipation for the ways of You, O Lord, my all in all. I will study. I will embed Your word and truth in me. I will seek You early and often. I will gather faith from the seeds planted. I will sustain faith through the watering of the Word of Life. I will live in abundance because Your love has promised all the riches I need. You meet every need. You sustain my life. Thank You. Amen.
