Faith

I believe in Our Lady of Ash,
and all the Black Madonnas
known and unknown.
I believe in Marian apparitions
sublime and ridiculous.
When I wake at 2:22 AM
I know it is Divine Mother
inviting me to explore darkness.
I pay homage to icons, ancient and modern.
I pray with rosaries of plastic beads,
Job's tears seeds, and pearls,
an umbilical cord
tethering me to Earth.
I am an optimist,
but I worry a lot.
I do not tell my grandchildren this.
