I met my love in a dream I have always been a romantic at heart, more so in my teens and twenties. Some might say, “What is so special about being romantic at that age?” come to think of it, yes. It’s a natural enough tendency at that age. They search for that ultimate heartthrob wherever they go. Only, it made a difference with me. In my dream, my family and I went for a wedding arranged in a temple complex atop a hill. We had cottages in the vicinity for an overnight stay. It was beautiful all around with green hills and valleys dotted with colorful wild flowers, flowing brooks and waterfalls. We reached the spot, when the sun was sinking into the west, lending luminescence to the ocean waves in the distance. I could hear a windblown melody spun by a shepherd on his flute. I was mesmerized by the sights and sounds of this locale. The wedding was over by nightfall. With nothing much to do after dinner, I went for a walk under the moonlit sky with thousands of stars flickering above. The wind was soft and fragrant. All of a sudden, I saw a handsome young man with an eye-catching smile and captivating gentle voice playing the guitar sitting on a bench by the hill overlooking the dark sea laced in white foam. I recognized him forthwith. I saw him at the wedding and he seemed very busy handling things and managing guests with ease. Next morning, before we left, I heard him murmuring, “Hope to see you soon.” I felt a deep emotional connection with him. When my sister woke me, I got up startled. I looked around searching, confused. “Why were you saying ‘see you soon in your sleep? Who was that?” she asked. I had no ready reply. Strangely enough, we did have a wedding to attend and the venue was a hill station, on the very next week. The groom was a cousin, my mom’s elder sister’s son. They brought the bride’s photos as we couldn’t meet the family before the wedding. In one of the photos the bride was with her siblings and friends. I was startled! There he was, the man in my dream! A close friend of the family. When I said I met him, my sisters asked me questions about where and how I met him. I had no ready answer. It was as though he came into clear view out of the fog. Unbelievable! Later, I did meet him in person in the wedding and the chemistry between us was unmistakable. Subsequent events took place as in a drama and within a month we were engaged and later, married. Even now, after many happy years later, I still wonder, “Is that a dream or a visionary gleam?” Dropnote ▼ |
