| “The monster is loose! Run!” All around me people were running and screaming, dragging little children, carrying babies, stampeding in a panic. I ran, too. Frantic cries of Monster! rang out from both my right and my left. Sirens blared. Searchlights probed dark alleyways and traversed the sky. A loudspeaker broadcast a warning that an alien monster was rampaging through the city and advised everyone to seek shelter. The fear was palpable. I ran until my strength gave out, then slumped beside a trash can. Suddenly, I was blinded by a flashlight trained on my face. “Monster!” the crowd shouted. 100 Words Drabble Week 10 Prompt: Write a drabble that is a story (so it has a beginning, middle and end, and a conflict) and a work of fiction (so not a memoir or true tale). |
