Being Alone

Being Alone

When the last of company has departed,
when the noise of chatter dies,
when time folds around us silent,
like the comfort of an old, frayed blanket,

then stretches the soul in luxury,
released at last into refreshing space,
wallows in the warmth of being alone,
and free for a time to be safe.
