The simplicity of my day to day. |
Have fun with these words: jawhole, navy, garlic, read, to, bottersweet, abuse, venture, apple and harmful. (jawhole means cesspool; sewer entrance) I’m presuming the word bottersweet is bittersweet? Jawhole is a word I’ve never before come across. Although I once wrote a story which included the opening to a sewer.
Domestic abuse is on the radar these days in Australia and as far as I can gather it’s the same all over the world. The sad part of domestic violence is that little children are privy to those violent scenes. It’s so harmful to their well being and mental health. Instead of being tucked up in bed and being read to before going to sleep they’re listening to fights and bad language. I’d venture to suggest the little ones who are subject to scenes of violence are scarred for life. If the children are eventually taken away from their parents to a place of safety, it’s a bittersweet moment for all concerned. The children may be safe but they’d miss being away from their parents no matter how dysfunctional the may have been. Being separated from family can have a long term effect on children and it’s a fact that many such children join the military when they’re grown, whether it’s the army or the navy. Perhaps they are seeking the security they never had? It’s winter here where I live and one’s thoughts go towards comfort food. I’ve been cooking up a storm. Besides making a spaghetti sauce with lots of garlic, we’re also having apple pie and custard to finish off the meal tonight. |
