D4 pt 12

Inside the warehouse, off to the right and towards the back, was a table and chairs set up in a break room.

“I’m worried about the boys,” said Kristin, “I’ve got a bad feeling.”

“Maybe they forgot about this warehouse,” said Darrel.

Tyrel gave him a sideways glance.

“You’re not funny,” said Kristin.

“There’s evidence of workers being here recently, “said Tyrel. “We’ll have to be careful.”

“Shut down the lights. The dims will be good enough for us to find something to do in our areas,” said Darrel.

Darrel led Kristin down an aisle between the stacks of boxes. It opened up into a space with a double mattress. There was a plug bar with a small nightlight and a cord for charging a phone on it.

“Adequate,” said Kristin.

“There’s magazines and books in one of those boxes. We can check if you want.”

“No not now. I’m too edgy.”

Darrel got behind Kristin and rubbed her shoulders. She leaned back against him.

“It feels like we are going backwards or something,” said Kristin. “We were all together and now we can’t even contact Mitch and Shawn and Dean are missing.”

There was a banging on the garage door. Tyrel motioned for Darrel and Kristin to be quiet as he went by. Darrel got up and motioned for Kristin to stay put.

The banging became more urgent. Tyrel lifted the door a couple of feet. Shawn was practically dragging Dean who had blood on his lower right leg.

“What happened?” asked Darrel.

Tyrel picked Dean up and took him to the break room.

“Oh my,” said Kristin. She grabbed the paper towel off the counter and lifted Dean’s pant leg. He had long scratches down his leg. Some were fairly deep.

“What the hell happened?” asked Darrel.

“We were slipping through an old warehouse and Dean’s leg went through the floor.”

“How bad is it?” asked Tyrel.

“It’s bad,” said Kristin, “he needs stitches.”

“Let’s just wrap it and brace it and we’ll see how he is in the morning,” said Darrel. “We really can’t afford a hospital run.”

“I know where there’s some alcohol hidden,” said Tyrel, “and some cloths for bandages.”

“I know where there’s a couple of boards and maybe some crutches,” said Darrel.

They brought the supplies to Kristin and she dressed Dean’s leg as best she could.

“We can move an old couch from the office over to Shawn’s area,” said Tyrel. “It will be more comfortable than a cot.”

They all worked together and got Shawn and Dean situated.

“He’s lost a lot of blood,” said Kristin.

“I’m surprised he didn’t pass out when it happened. He was able to help me get him here.”

“Keep an eye on him,” said Darrel. “We’ll see you in the morning.”

Darrel and Kristin got to their area and Darrel let himself fall on the bed. Kristin started sifting through boxes.

“We should get some sleep,” said Darrel.

Kristin shot him a glare then went back to the boxes. She found the books and sorted them. Dean Koontz’s Darkfall caught her eye. A good horror would take her mind off the real horrors they were facing.

The big lights went out and Kristin lit the nightlight and read.
