The dog was a gift from the skies. Pooch Attica, a wire-haired Portuguese Podengo mix followed Mare home one morning in May. He lay his head on the grass patch in her back yard never to leave again. She adored him and felt lonely no more. The dog turned out to be the foundation for a good life with a companion and laid the brick for joy for both of them. Alas, after 15 years Attica passed away. But instead of crying her heart out, she decided to join him. She put on his leash and followed him to the gate, where Saint Peter and his canine were expectingly waiting for them. "Have you been a good boy?", Peter asked the dog. "Have you been a good boss?", Peter inquired to Mare. "Yes", answered Attica. "Yes", told Mare. The two dogs ran off to the rainbow, while Saint Peter and Mare took a glass of nectar and discussed life on earth. “What are your plans, now you are here?” Peter smiled and gazed into her brown eyes. Mare had her light-bolt moment. “Is there a vacancy at the gate? Can you use any help?” “Well now, nobody has ever asked me those questions before,” Peter looked ecstatic. “ You are most welcome”. They both fell into a comfortable silence, she tossed her hair to one side and he scratched his long beard. They both grinned with delight. And so it happened. The Heavenly Gate was operated by two from that day forward. And God liked what He saw while He continued working in His Garden. WC:263 Note ▼ |
