Okay, Lyn has organized another virtual tour. Woohoo! |
| Non-American and non-art student here. I thought that this particular painting with the stern-faced farm folk and the pitchfork looked familiar. It has been parodied and copied untold times. It is easily recognized. Now I have learned that the original artist was born in Iowa and he has a name as most folk seem to have. I cannot say for certain that he looks like a Grant Wood, but that is his moniker. If the experts claim that this painting represents the American Gothic style who am I to disagree? It does seem to resonate with small town America. Farmers have contributed to the United States since forever. What's that saying? If you've eaten today, thank a farmer. It is a fitting homage to farm life and all it represents. I enjoyed clowning with Witchy Yule Woman |
