Free Verse is an irregular form of poetry in which the content free of traditional rules of versification, (freedom from fixed meter or rhyme).
In moving from line to line, the poet's main consideration is where to insert line breaks. Some ways of doing this include breaking the line where there is a natural pause or at a point of suspense for the reader.
Following the direction of Walt Whitman, Ezra Pound and T.S.Eliot, many modern day poets use this particular form of expression.
This is a Free Verse Poem inspired by Halloween III - Season of the Witch
Pagans danced in a circle
Twirling round and round
Surrounding Stonehenge on Samhain
Creating energy β creating
The Season of the Witch
Survived throughout the ages
Settling in northern lands
Twisting, turning, mutilating
Using disguises of all kinds
Mutating in the modern
Changing your look β jack-o-lanterns
Skeletons, green face β dangerous
What happens to fear when itβs laced
With pain dulled by the drink?
What happens to disgust when drugged
With unbelief?
Take off the mask the warning goes out
The trick is death of the innocent
The treat is a dance with the devil in
The Season of the Witch
