week 11 the Turkey Vrs the Eagle Grand Debate At the dawn Of the American Government A fierce debate raged Should the new country Have an official bird As a mascot or not? Some prefered The majestic bald eagle Symbolic of power. But shared by others In Europe as well. Others prefered Like Ben Franklin Preferred the Turkey Native to America A compromise of sorts Emerged. The Eagle became the informal mascot As did the turkey Which people began to eat Every Thanksgiving. Nearly 250 years later Someone discovered, That the eagle had never Been formally voted As the national mascot bird. And so Congress Corrected that mistake. And now We have the Eagle And the turkey. One a symbol And one we eat. As our twin national birds. PPC6 Cover Image Prompt/Week # 13 Write a poem about a bird! Any bird, any color, your choice! |
