Insomniac Nightmares Blues

I often get the insomniac
Nightmare blues

At 0 dark hundred hours
The middle of the night
Time often comes to a stop
It is 4 a.m.

And your mind
Goes down rabbit holes
Of anxiety, despair
and fear
And dark imaginings,

You try to sleep
Try to let it all go
Until you wake up.

And write down your nightmare
While drinking coffee
And watching the sun rise
watching the news.

When your spouse
Wakes up
Everything seems fine
And the nightmares
Fade away,

That is the insomniac
nightmare blues.
