Chery Tree Memories
Cherry Tree Memories

I first saw Cherry trees blooming
In DC when I was a young lad

The memory
stuck with me
Over the years

I saw Cherry trees
Blooming in Korea
From 1979 to now

And once in Tokyo
As well

Every spring time
For the last few years
I take a walk

To see the cherry trees
Before the flowers

Turn into snow flakes
Littering
the spring time path

Cherry tree blooming
Is still the best
In DC

The Japanese claim
The DC Cherry trees
Were a gift

From the Emperor of Japan
But he got the trees
From Chinhae, Korea

More cultural appropriation
Korean historians complain
