Here's how you can learn the secrets of this little-known, lucrative business: http://www.thewriterslife.com/wc Please support our Sponsor and visit their site today! :: Introducing the "Book" Item Type :: Writing.Com is excited to release our newest item type: Book. This latest improvement fills the gap in the portfolio options that are available to our writers. Now an Author's entire novel or collection can be displayed as whole Book, rather than in pieces. The Book item replaces the existing Journal item type. (All existing Journals will be automatically converted to Books.) Books have five (5) different sub-type options: Collection, Journal, Novel, Novella, and Short Story. Each sub-type has a specific purpose. "Collections" can house a variety of works, such as poetry or articles, while a "Novel" holds its chapters within it. All Books converted from Journals will be pre-set to the "Journal" sub-type and can be changed by the author at any time. The number of entries a Book can hold is based on its selected sub type. For example, "Journals" can have up to 500 entries , while "Novels" can have up to 100 entries. You can learn more about each of these new sub-types by reading the following: Book Item Sub Types The Book's "Entry Format" setting determines how the Book's entry listing page will be displayed to visitors. Three new additions have been added to the existing three options. These include: an Abridged Listing, a Table Of Contents Format and an Entry Summary Format. For the complete details on these new options, please see: Book Item Entry Formats The Manage Book page is a new tool that allows an author to set the order of the entries within a book. Detailed information about each entry in the book is conveniently listed in this section. The "Manage Book" link can be found in an Author's Private Portfolio and in the "Your Item" line at the top of the Book Item. Books are regular items, just like Journals, and are stored in a member's portfolio with an Item ID. The WritingML tag is still the "item" ML tag; entries within books still use the "entry" ML tag. The use of Books are limited by Membership type. Upgraded Members can create and house up to 10 Books. Premium Members can create and hold up to 25 Books. Book items have a maximum size of 2 Megabytes (2,048k). Once a book reaches the maximum size or maximum number of entries, it is considered full and a new Book would need to be created to add new entries. Information on the size of a particular Book and its individual entries can be found within the "Manage Book" tool. This change is brand new, so there may be some bugs here and there. If you find anything that appears to be working incorrectly, please post in:
