Updates To Static Items and Books

With the release of our Book Item type complete, we have some important
updates and new tools to let you know about!

:: Updates To Static Items ::
To help better organize Writing.Com and limit the size of items that need to be
downloaded by readers, Static Items for Upgraded and Premium Members are
now limited to 200k maximum.

The recently released Book Item can store up to 2,048k (2 Megabytes). Any
writings that do not fit into a Static Item should be split up and stored in the
entries of a Book Item.

Less than 1% of the existing 100,000+ Static Items are above this new limit.
Those items will be left "as is" by the system, though we encourage their owners
to transfer them to Books or break them into smaller static items for better
presentation and ease of use for readers.

The limit for Free or Basic Members remains at 50k per Static Item.


:: New Static Item Sub Types ::
To better assist those members utilizing Static Items to build their books, we
have added the following new Static Item Sub-Types:
          Preface - Any remarks that may come before the chapters of a book.
          Chapter - A main division of a book.
          Appendix - Supplementary material that comes after a book.
          Sample - A part or a single item from a larger work.


:: Added Tools For Book Item Entries ::
To increase the usability of Book Item entries, the following tools that were
previously only available for Static Items have been added:
          Spell Check - Can now be run on any entry more easily.
          To HTML - Allows one to export an entry to HTML.
          Word Count - Provides word count information.

These new tools can be found in the "Entry Options" line located both above and
below each book entry. Please note these tools are not presently available on
Books with "No Listing" Entry Formats.


:: Costumicon Subscription Available! ::
This costumicons subscription will last through noon on November 2nd, 2003.

:: Extension For Grandfathered Free Accounts ::
On May 15th we announced some changes to our Free Membership, including
a reduction in items to a maximum of 5. For full details please see:
         "Important Changes To Our Membership Plans" 
The grace period will expire November 15th, 2003. At that time, Free members
with more than 5 items will have items over this limit purged.


:: ** Please Remember To Update Email Addresses! ** ::
If you're still using your OLD Stories.Com email address anywhere, this is a
reminder that email service for Stories.Com addresses will end 12/31/03.
