Removal instructions Noticing Newbies Newsletter is geared to help new members get acquainted with Writing.com -- there is so much do and all the features can be overwhelming! Our goal is to help new members make their time here more fun and manageable. Each week we will showcase new authors items (poetry, short story, polls, etc.). Exposure for each member's writing will help bring more rates and reviews for their work, and by bringing more member interaction to the member, that will give them the opportunity to build friendships with other members, as long as they reciprocate reviews and conversation -- remember, it is a two way street. "There's someone that you haven't already met, go introduce yourself to him or her. Walls and labels can't keep you from the people who are so similar to you in spirit. There's a friendly face behind every door if you pick the right moment to knock. Once you start your wave of creative outreach, it turns into a contagious force. People are waking up and smiling at each other, sharing their dreams without hesitation. This community is worth something." -- Author Unknown Passionate about writing? The opportunities here are endless for a writer, which include your own portfolio to store your writing, image/clipart capability, e-mail, contests, interaction with other writers, reviews & rates by your peers, that is just to name a few. Today, I would like to focus on reviewing. Reviewing is the process of tactfully critiquing one's work with honesty and integrity. To share your wisdom and point-of-view of the whole, not the minute. Active reviewing improves our ability to learn from experience. Most reviewing is simple, basic and direct. Used wisely it can enliven and sharpen the process of reviewing experience, and enrich others as well. The reviewing process includes: Analyzing experience Communicating experience Making sense of experience Learning from experience Reflecting on experience For more information on reviewing see the following: REVIEW RESOURCES: "Guidelines To Great Reviewing" by The StoryMaster "Invalid Item" by A Guest Visitor "Daily Review Rewards" by The StoryMaster "Please Review" by Writing.Com Support "Find a Review Forum" by Writing.Com Support The following link displays recent public reviews given by Writing.Com members to various items within the site. Writing.com is a second home for many writers. It is a place to proudly display and share your work. As a reviewer, please remember that not only should the author who receives your review benefit from your words...you should too. "Reviewers are forever telling authors they can't understand them. The author might often reply: Is that my fault?" ~ J.C. and A.W. Hare, Guesses at Truth "A perfect judge will reach each work of wit with the same spirit that its author writ; Survey the whole, nor seek slight faults to find When nature moves, and rapture warms the mind." ~ Pope, Essay on Critcism, Pt. ii, 1. 33. "Listen carefully to made of your work. Note just what it is about your work that critics don't like - then cultivate it. That's the only part of your work that's individual and worth keeping. ~ Jean Cocteau Until next time... ** Image ID #692136 Unavailable ** Monthly featured newbies I have personally chosen for your enjoyment:

After reading the bio blocks that you highlighted, I fell rather creative. Thanks for a great NL! ~Nikola lol...I know, I love those bios too. Thanks Nikola! leisure time Can you clarify some of the different classifications, please? For example, what distinguishes a short story from an essay from an article? Thanks! An essay is a composition that usually is no longer than 2,000 words, and the author will analyze a subject in a personal way. A short story is fiction prose, much shorter than a novel, usually runs to be 3,000 words or less. bittersweet It feels good to see my article on the Editor's pick. Thanks a bunch. I hope to continue writing more, and continue to be noticed ;) Actually I have some stuff which I just am too lazy to type and update, I'd better get started on that!!!
