A HEART THAT IS NOT A HEART

[ A placid life devoid of joys and sorrows is no life]



A heart that beats but does not race,
A heart that does not heartbreak face;

A heart that, to leap, is too cold
When it does a rainbow behold;

A heart tense, always full of care,
One that can’t simply stand and stare;

A heart that can’t jump like a child
On seeing a flower growing wild;

A heart drawn by dollars, not dolls,
A heart playing with stock and not balls;

A heart not drenched by painful tears,
A heart unmoved by unknown fears;

A heart like that is not a heart
If feelings have in it no part.
