Old mattress

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦


Tattered, torn,
and coffee stained.
It sits at the roadside,
a spectator to stories ...

of love won and lost
between sheets or under blankets,
but always caressed
by cotton patterned softness.

Used,
now discarded,
but once alive!
It slumbers silent,
a testimony
to humanity’s allergy
to cold hard floor.
