Refocusing My Attention
13 Asma 163 B.E. – September 1, 2006

I’ve been making God a secondary consideration lately. I know this because I’m having so many difficulties that cause stress. When I put God first, say my prayers regularly, read the scriptures daily, and meditate, I don’t have as much stress. Not that I don’t have any less problems, it’s just that they don’t effect when I put God first in my life and ask the Divine Essence for assistance.

There is a prayer, revealed by Baha’u’llah that I usually say under extreme stress.

“He who put his trust in God, God will suffice him,
He who fears God, God will send him relief.”

I’ve been repeating this prayer a lot lately. These verse reminds me to refocus my attention on Baha’u’llah and the Divine Essence. Material considerations sometimes cause me to put my spiritual life secondary, when it should be primary. The items of this world that I acquire will remain here when I die, the only thing I will take with me into the next world are the spiritual attributes I’ve exercised while living here. If I haven’t developed any spiritual attribute, then I won’t have anything to take with me into the next world.

It’s interesting that when I refocus my attention from material considerations, the circumstances in my life change sometimes dramatically and sometimes slowly. However, stress no longer affects me the way it did before I refocused.
