Chair Dancing
I’ve written before how music touches our emotions on a level other forms of expression sometimes can’t reach. Every culture has its music; it’s necessary for the health of our mind and even our soul. Think of every movie you’ve seen that has grabbed you at one point, and try to imagine watching it without the music. I’ll bet it wouldn’t have the same impact.

A few days ago I shared a song that made me stop to listen. I recently heard another song that from the moment I heard it, my soul resonated. I had to know who sang it, and get a copy as soon as possible. Once I found out, darn it, but it didn’t come out for another week. I had to order it and wait almost two weeks before I could have it for my very own and listen to it as often as I could. I now have it, and recorded it both on my computer at home and at work. That way, I won’t have to worry about wearing out the CD.

By tobyMac from their new album Portable Sounds, here are the lyrics of the song I can’t get enough of:

Made To Love

The dream was fading
Now I'm staring at the door
I know it's over cuz my feet have hit the cold floor
Check my reflection
I ain't feelin' what I see
It's no mystery

What ever happened to a passion I could live for?
What became of the flame that made me feel more?
And when did I forget,
That I was made to love you
I was made to find you
I was made just for you
Made to adore you
I was made to love
And be loved by you

You were here before me
You were waiting on me
And you said you'd keep me
Never would you leave me
I was made to love
And be loved by you

The dream's alive with my eyes open wide
Back in the ring
You got me swinging for the grand prize
I feel the hate is spittin' vapors on my dreams
But I still believe
I'm reaching out, reaching up, reaching over
I feel a breeze cover me called Jehovah
And Daddy I'm on my way

Cuz I was made to love
I was made to love you
I was made to find you
I was made just for you
Made to adore you
I was made to love
And be loved by you

You were here before me
You were waiting on me
And you said you'd keep me
never would you leave me
I was made to love
And be loved by you

I was made to love you
I was made to find you
I was made just for you
Made to adore you
I was made to love
And be loved by you

You were here before me
You were waiting on me
And you said you'd keep me
Never would you leave me
I was made to love
And be loved by you

Na na na na
Na na na na na
na na na na
na na na na na

Anything, I would give up for you
Na na na na na
Everything
I give it all away
Na na na na na
Anything, I would give up for you
Na na na na na
Everything
I give it all away
Na na na na na
Anything, I would give up for you
Na na na na na
Everything
I give it, I give it all away, oh yeah
Na na na na na

Cuz I was made to love you
((I was made to love you))
Yeah, I was made to love you
(I was made to find you))
I was made to love you
((made to adore you, made just for you))
Na na na na na
I was made to love you
((made to adore you, made just for you))
I was made to love you
((made to adore you, made just for you))
Na na na na na
I was made to love you
((I was made to adore you))
Yeah, I'm loved by you
Yeah, I'm loved by you
Yeah, I'm loved by... youuu
Na na na na na
Na na na na na

(You can listen to this song and three others on tobyMac’s myspace site: http://www.myspace.com/tobymac Hype Man f TruDog is another one you should listen to. It’s nothing like you’d expect.)

The big surprise is this group is considered Hip Hop, and I don’t care for most Hip Hop. This one, however, won’t let me go. The entire album I enjoy listening to, not only the one song. I know I look ridiculous chair-dancing as my headphones blare in my ears, but I don't much care. God doesn't care, either. He sees my joy, not how silly I look expressing it.

Reminds me of what David said to Saul's daughter after dancing in the streets naked rejoicing the return of the Ark of the Covenant:

When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, "How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, disrobing in the sight of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!"

David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the LORD's people Israel—I will celebrate before the LORD. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor." ~ 2 Samuel 6:20-22

Don't worry. I have no plans to dance naked - anywhere! I'll stick to chair-dancing fully clothed, thank you.
