L'aura del campo

DEATH of WINTER: 12 'Ala (13 March) 72º.

'é a lua, é a lua, na quintana dos mortos'
♣ Federico García Lorca ♣

... bust a nut on your face, bitch ...

This is what greeted me on Saturday night up on campus on my walk back from the library. Maybe the University of Kansas should invest in mandatory civic lessons for its students, urge their underage brats to cut back a bit on drinking? I hate to agree with the Missourian Rush Limbaugh but some of the privileged MBA wannabes sporting Muck Fizzou tee shirts have no manners and absolutely no class.

Only the blond and beautiful need apply

Speaking of universities ... how about De Pauw in Indiana?

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/02/27/national/main2519872.shtml

Delta Zeta (founded in 1902) has egg all over it's face after telling most of its sorority members at De Pauw to take a hike. Since then the university has kicked out the sorority and the national body of Delta Zeta has issued an apology. But the damage is done.

One reason (there were many) I never joined a fraternity was that I didn't fit the image; another was that I wasn't about to change me to become someone I wasn't. I feel for the girls of Delta Zeta. I applaud those that quit in protest.

Buying a basketball dream team

... doesn't necessarily include giving the student who has been used a degree. Ohio State may be #1 in the rankings but it's graduation percentage is dismal. Truth-to-be-told, neither are many other programs as well. K.U. fits somewhere in the middle; nothing to be proud of.

So there you have it ... To be a valued student you have to be blond or very very tall. Graduating is not a prime goal, neither are manners. The university of today is the high school of the 50s. It's all about pony-tails and popularity.

Belltower at the end of winter

The phallus lit -
a golden orange
stiff against the blue-black sky
a tracery of trees
their silhouette.

I share my thoughts
with the seven lights
up in the southern sky;
how many days are left until
Orion and I exchange
one last goodbye.

Crow feathers

And I will sail
on the impulse of a neutron
brave the absolute
between the stars
climb the staircase
of your heaven, the zero
sum of all my scars.

Prayer

O Lord! Unto Thee I repair for refuge, and toward all Thy signs I set my heart.
O Lord! Whether traveling or at home, and in my occupation or in my work, I place my whole trust in Thee.
Grant me then Thy sufficing help so as to make me independent of all things, O Thou Who art unsurpassed in Thy mercy!
Bestow upon me my portion, O Lord, as Thou pleasest, and cause me to be satisfied with whatsoever Thou hast ordained for me.
Thine is the absolute authority to command.

Me, my friends and my family

Got a phone call on Monday that lowered my anxiety level a notch, but it still is too high. Reading Kafka on the shore and The Red Thread didn't help either. I feel connected to the past and future, but only half-here in the present. Ouch.

Monday eve: 70º at 7 p.m. Finally found some snowdrops to the west of Old Greene (Lippincott) Hall. Lilac and quince buds are swelling. I set on a bench in Marvin Grove and wrote Gary a post-card.

Seems odd for it to still be light outside. Very difficult for my Bahá'í friends who are observing the Fast. Sunset being later than 7 p.m. interferes with evening meetings.

Tuesday morn: nice to see daffodils and crocuses in folk's lawns when I'm taking the bus. May get close to 80º today. I left my sweater at home. A sneeze? where did that come from?

WATT'S GNU!

More troubles in Zimbabwe. Hopefully zwisis will give us the low-down on this.

IMAGES and RAMBLINGS

Velvety spears of the magnolia; raggedy evergreen of bamboo; the greening of bush honeysuckle; birds birds birds in song; yellow pansy opening; the bell-tower lit golden-yellow against a blue-black sky; warmth.

"'Fry an Irishman; bake a Scot; sprinkle the Welsh with coal." Not a nice thought (has good rhythm though), but the English were not always nice to their fellow neighbors on the Isles. I have too much English blood to ignore that.

"A cuppa black chemical", spouted by Bill Barker this morning. He said it came from an episode of WKRP.

The weather is Spring-like. Had to wear a sweater vest yesterday instead of a sweater and that only because the nights are cool. With this stretch of nice days any return to winter will be brief.

Finished Umibe no Kafuka ( = seaside's Kafka [crow]). Disturbing. Surrealistic. Great read, but it has unnerved me.

Finsihed The Red Thread. Also unnerving. Very strong images.

BLOGVILLE

I've read a few entries, left comments, but little is sticking to the brain today.
