Conversation with a green cardigan

And did you forget
"John not Janine"
to pick up this zippered sweater
knitted olive green
The note reads:
"from Nathan not Niles"
I touch it softness,
take a photograph
then smile.

This is the art and artifice
found at the back of a sodashop.
The moment of the gift
and giver lift
the veil from memories
not of Janine nor John,
not even Niles
but Nathan

... ah ...
of Nathan.
