Angel strumpets

Loose wrap that held the flower:
peach, white, golden
fragrance that filled the night
fell to the rhythm of the rain.

Loose wrap that held the flower
stiff, brown, hard, expectant
that filled my night,
before the morning rains awoke me.

Loose wraps that hold these flowers
soft strands protecting life
and life from life
now used, abused, abandoned.
