My friends want to celebrate my birthday; they’re always up for some type of horseplay. Despite their persuasions I choose to decline; I'd rather relax and enjoy my “me” time. Spending the night alone in my apartment, despite my friends plea for excitement; I find a forgotten gift from a distant cousin, wipe the dust off the box, overlooking the faded caution. I lay the cracked, rotting board next to my liquor, then the marred mouse on top. Did I just see it slither? No, I couldn’t have. Why do I sense something is here? I feel a chill in my bones, the air fills with fear. I lay my fingers lightly on the mouse, close my eyes and suddenly, I shout. It moved! I don’t know how this happened! I am filled with curiosity, yet so frightened. I look down; the cursor points to the letter “Y”. I feel I must continue, a need to comply. My hands attached, my eyes closed, mysteriously, it moves to the letter “o”. I’m scared to quit and, yet, scared to continue, but something within me continues to pursue. Letters creep to life in front of my eyes, with the last, the mouse halts with a rustling sigh. I read the words, something snaps within me and ignites; a sense of horror; “You will have visitors tonight” Immediately, I put the game back in its box. And suddenly, I hear three knocks. I run to my door, shaking with fear. No one is there. Could this game be that severe? I grab the game to throw away; but as I turn around, from the hallway, I see all my kitchen cabinets violently swing open and the cross on my wall, now broken. Another knock, three bangs at my door, I drop the box, shaken to my very core. I turn around and on my table lays a polished antique pistol. Frightened to tears, I get my friend on the line, “Let me come to the party, I think I have the time.” 40 Lines 346 Words ** Image ID #1806785 Unavailable ** |
