Chapter 3
Was she nuts?
Is this why Janet was here?
It looked like a hospital. All she could remember seeing was her room.
She was not even quite sure how she got here.
All she knew was that she wasn't at home anymore.
That made her feel lonely.
Almost sad.
The voice didn't answer her question.
He never did.
How did Janet know that though?
She couldn't remember anything that happened yesterday or within the past several months but
she could remember that the voice never answered her.
How could that be?
Why would the mind remember some things and then it not remember anything at all?
That always used to bug her when she was little, too.
She thought back to everything that happened.
All the way back to the beginning when everything was peaches and cream.
Her and Bonnie were best friends. Not just best friends either, no best friends forever.
They even took a blood sister oath when they were little. They pricked their fingers and waited
for them to bleed. They put the bloody spots together and said "We will be best friends forever
until the day we die."
Well, Janet thought, she wasn't dead yet, and she wanted to know what the hell happened to that?
She sneered at the thought of Bonnie.
The closest friends always made the worst enemies. Whoever said that hit the nail square on the
head.
She could remember her moving into the house on top of the hill. She remembered how ridiculous it
was that a small three bedroom house got turned into a fourteen room mansion. She wasn't sure if
it was ridiculousness or pure talent on Ganeva's part.
Bonnie's parents were pretty cool. Pretty modern people, really. Ganeva with her long blond hair,
a ton of make-up and her big jewelry. She always wanted to be the center of attention and she
always got it every where she went. Bonnie was the spitting image of her mother.
Then there was Mr. McConnell. He had brown hair and brown eyes like everyone else and always wore
a shirt and tie. Janet could remember once or twice when he wasn't wearing a shirt and tie. Bonnie
was not the spitting image of him.
Bonnie did like to spend his money though and she did it so well. Except Bonnie did it with a
little bit more finesse than her mother. Her mother always went for the high priced gimmicks. She
always bought things on TV just so that she could show off to her friends that she had one. When
it came to clothes it was expensive stuff and she had to look good.
Bonnie was more worried about style and class. She wanted it to look good and she wanted it
to be good.
It was awful when Bonnie found out she'd been adopted. That's part of what started all the trouble,
Janet mused. If it hadn't been for Bonnie to find out who her real parents are or whether or not
she had brothers and sisters she wouldn't be in this awful mess.
We'll blame it on Bonnie, Janet shrugged. It sounded good to her.
"You know it wasn't her fault!" The voice boomed from out of nowhere.
Janet looked around. All she could see was sun. She squinted and rubbed her eyes.
"You know the only person you can blame for this whole entire mess was you! That's it just you.
Now quit stalling. It's time!"
