An evil twist to the usual things that go bump in the night. |
Janet opened the door. A small dark space appeared. Bonnie peered in. She saw nothing but darkness. "Oh come on Bonnie! Don't be scared! Just follow me and I will keep you safe!" That's exactly what Bonnie was afraid of, she thought. Janet climbed in. "It's okay, Bonnie. Just follow my voice. I'll be right in front of you!" "That means, if you fall, I fall." Bonnie exclaimed in a flat tone to let Janet know she wasn't impressed. "Why you always got to think like that Bonnie," she was still in that little baby voice that was starting to irritate Bonnie. "Why can't you ever take a risk?" "Whatever!" Bonnie said only because she ran out of things to say. There they were...crawling on all fours, like two escaped rats going deeper and deeper into the darkness. They must've crawled well into a hundred to two hundred feet of the space. It was so tiny that Bonnie could feel the coldness of metal on both shoulders. She could feel spiderwebs brush up against her hair and couldn't lift her arm high enough to brush them off. There was a smell coming through the space. Bonnie couldn't put her finger on it. She'd never smelled a smell quite like that before. It was nauseating. Bonnie was scared! For the first time in her life she couldn't rely on Janet. She couldn't rely on her to keep her safe and sound. This time Bonnie had to be the boss. Janet was incognito and Bonnie didn't know what to do. They took a right turn. Janet was talking the whole time. Bonnie didn't even recognize the rambling. "Come on Bonnie! They will never find us in here!" Another small door opened just in front of Janet. Bonnie stalled. Janet began to unfold a small ladder that reached onto the floor of what looked like another room. "Janet, what are you doing? Where are we going? Are we supposed to be in here?" Bonnie threw twenty questions at once at Janet. "Do you always do what you're supposed to do, Bonnie?" Bonnie shrugged. "I guess not," she said. Janet climbed down the ladder. She walked over and turned on the light. Bonnie jumped. She looked at Janet. "Come on Bonnie. We will be safe down here! They will never find us!" Bonnie climbed down the ladder. The smell even stronger now. She looked around the room. She looked at Janet in shock. "Oh my God, Janet! What have you done?" |
