The Compass Rose
True north decries the polar star as frigates ply the global juice. Sea charts unfurled on Captain's desk, beneath sextant, compass, scope, illustrate lurking monsters who forbid ships crossing without their due. Tempest trident rises. Storm clouds block sun and stars, gales buffet, tear at sails. For days they run as dragon winds give chase, til east meets south, no supplication heard. Feted waves wash clean the decks of men. Masts crack, ballast shifts. Green orbs flash in endless night; ship slips beneath the liquid salt. One hundred years later, diver grabs golden flash in Triangular garden-- long-lost compass rose.
