Abide.
Determined not to let go, he stayed:
faded shell of what he once was.
A husk, shrunken, but not empty:
it still held the heart of him.
His eyes burned red, deep in bruised sockets,
but they still saw clear into the heart of me.
Emotions that sprouted the day
I was conceived,
never grew too old or sick to feel
although words failed him.
Hands, once so strong and sure
wasted to talons that vibrated
as he held on, yet
his touch was gentle in his determination to
remain.

But even though he could not stay beyond
his allotted time, and silently, he slipped away,
a part of him, the important part,
the essence, the very feel of him,
the sound of his words, continues
to reverberate.
Inside my heart, does he still,
abide.
