Summer’s End

By Lisa Noe *Cat2*

As summer ends and autumn approaches

Squirrels gather their food to store in their home

Leaves begin to blow to the ground as they swirl all around

And children go back to school to learn their lessons well

Colors, red, orange, and gold surround us in our towns

The trees blow so softly in the breezy afternoons

Evenings begin to cool and strays try to find a shelter

I think of all the homeless and how some live beneath the bridge

Many of them drunkards and many are insane

But still I think of all of them and say a special prayer

Because all of us are human and we need to care for one another

Some of these are gentle souls that roam the streets alone.

As I say bye to summer I’ll miss the flowers and leaves

I love my little roses but I’ll see them again in the spring

The boat rides are over until summer shines again

I look for next year coming but I enjoy the fall as well.
