Day 16 prompt:
The prompt is to write a poem about having insomnia.

Insomnia Strikes

Sleep slips past
Tiptoes away
Just beyond grasp....
I fumble and trip
Trying to follow
To make it come
To make it stay...
But it ambles off
Carrying its sweet comfort
And hiding it where I cannot even think to find it
I long for it to return
To bring the blanket of comfort
To sooth me with dreams and darkness
where the world falls away...
But it does not
And I struggle
Trip and fall
Tears wet my cheek
Another night of loss ebbs away
As morning breaks
And coats the sky with golden light
I hear a giggle
And turn to see it
Slip away into the shadows
Lost to me for another day...
