A brief discussion of my experiences with being a Rising Star Nominee. |
This entry is written for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" based on the prompt: Please, I don't care what you want to talk about today, just no politics. Find a story that makes you feel good about the world and tell us about it. Ironically, the first story I found didn't appear political, but it turned out it was. It was about a dentist and his friends went into a cafe for lunch and left a $450 tip. The cafe was obviously politically leaning in one direction while the dentist and his friends, wearing political shirts, were obviously supporters of the other party. Also, they immediately started getting stared at and felt very uncomfortable as soon as they walked in. But their waitress was friendly to them anyway, so they left a $450 tip. The headline just mentioned the tip, so I thought it was cool. But really? I don't have a problem with the fact that he left that tip, it's just that they felt SO uncomfortable and she was nice despite their political leanings. It's her JOB to be nice to customers! I feel like our politics shouldn't matter when it comes to most things, but apparently it does. Anyway, I wouldn't have picked that story, even if I'd been told not to. Of course, I just messed everything up by writing about it anyway. lol So, onto the story I REALLY picked. http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/ups-spends-4-years-to-return-important-package/ A UPS store owner sometimes has packages left because the recipient and sender both move so the package can't go anywhere. Apparently, they open them when no one can be found to take them. Well, this particular package contained memorabilia from a father who had died 30 years before. The box held his funeral flag as well as letters from both Presidents Nixon and Reagan, photographs, and poems and letters written by the man. The UPS store owner spent 4 years searching for the rightful recipient. Finally, after taking to the internet and sending over 40 messages to possible relatives, the owner was found. The son was so grateful to receive his father's items! Follows is a quote from the son, Tim Burchell. "“I can’t express how thankful I am that Randy was so passionate to find us,” Tim told Good News Network. “I couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2017. Receiving this package has been priceless.”" ** Image ID #2100707 Unavailable ** |
