Autumn Events

Cottonwood leaves fell
Onto the brown dying grass
Grandpa's October yard work

A Halloween Party
at the First Southern Baptist Mission
in the Smelter Heights,
was a joyful event.

Halloween wasn't scary then,
so we could trick-or-treat without worry,
and accept baked good
or apples
from the neighbors.

Grandma Mary,
was Grandma to the entire neighborhood,
she made cookies
for Trick-or-Treating children.

Grandpa Frank
took us Trick-or-Treating
though the Heights
and our own neighborhood;
his grandchildren
didn't go from house-to-house
without his protection.

When we brought the treats home,
Grandma cut the apples
into slices
for all of us to share.
