Planetary Inspiration

A Polaroid of the Moon

Embraced by night
the sun's mirror lays
frozen in timeless splendor.

Seas and oceans,
waterless and still,
are dark blotches against
Luna's light kissed heights.

I wrote this on 11 Sultan 152 B.E. I took an astronomy class at UNLV that year. One of the things we had to do was take a Polaroid of the full moon. I don't know what happened to the picture. I think it might have been lost in one of my moves.

Saturn: My First View

Perfect white pearl
Encircled by mother-of-pearl rings
Accompanied
By four glittering moonstones
Adorn the ebony throat of night
