What does a person mean when they say they need space?

What does a person mean when they say they need space? The statement "I need space," could mean almost anything from "'You're standing too close, get out of my personal space." to "We meed to end this relationship." Sometimes the tone of voice will suggest what the person means, but not always. The best way to determine meaning of the statement is to ask. One of the problems, with the world today, is lack of communication. If you're not sure what the other person means ask.
