The Best Buds of the Tongue

"We jump and joy and do cartwheels,
expressing all we are.
"The wondrous things we meet in meals
are ecstasies by far."

"A piece of boar in a sizzling pan
enraptures all our souls.
"Some cackled shells by chef's great plan
bring the joy of feast so whole."

"The tubers of the loamy sod
affect us in great ways.
"They're baked and dressed for king or God
or fried, in bowls displayed."

"'To speak is human, to moo bovine'
is a phrase not of good (the word we can't use.)'
"Yet utter joy is the fluid fine
as a serial bliss we can't refuse."

"We pan the land from yeast to west
in search of dough and crust.
"We slather the slice with marginal best
and share with those we trust."

"From cherries so red we gain beans so green.
It's roasted end so brown.
"Enjoy the cup so loved and preened
with pleasure going down."

"Again, we sip a boiling cup
with leaves of color rare.
"The future tannins biff us up
as do white, green, and reds with care."

"On the wing, we sing of the bird in the spring,
'til munch it's bliss on a plate.
"Some gnaw it breaded as their thing,
but for me mild and mellow's great!"

"We're tossed about in soul and mind
to find a healthful bowl,
"but spring we fast to leaves so kind,
oiled slick to make us whole."
