 Gratitude breaks the spell of Writers Block |

Staring at a blank page is like staring into a snowfield. The snow, untouched by civilization and unmarked by living creatures, blinds you for a few minutes, it glistens reflecting subtle shades of pure white and rainbows at odd angles. If you stare at the snow too long, you get lost in the interplay of light and shadow. As the day wears on, you become awestruck at the beauty of the snow's perfection. You marvel at the way an oak tree cast its ebony shadow across the pure white snow. You watch the tree's shadow change, grow and shrink, as Earth turns and the sun moves from morning to evening. If you stand out in the snow too long without moving, you risk snow bite or freezing. If you are fortunate, a red fox will walk across your line of sight. The fox will leave his footprints written in the snowfield. As you watch the fox move, the spell holding you in one spot staring at the snow is broken. You are free to go inside out of the cold and out of danger. I must say, writing 500 words a day isn't difficult, unless I'm attempting to write on a single subject. I finished some my February 26-March 2 goals yesterday. March is going to be an inspiring and busy month. I have a doctor's appointment on Monday, March 5, to have my toenail cut; a task I can no longer do myself. March 2 is the first day of ‘Alá’ (Loftiness), which is the month of the Fast. Since I'm over 70, I don't have to fast between sunup and sundown. I will say the prayers revealed for the Fast. The 19-day fast ends at sunset on March 20. ‘Idál (Justice), 16 Mulk (Dominion) 174 B.E. - Wednesday, February 21, 2018 "The other mode of the spirit’s influence and action is without these bodily instruments and organs. For example, in the state of sleep, it sees without eyes, it hears without ears, it speaks without a tongue, it runs without feet—in brief, all these powers are exerted without the mediation of instruments and organs. How often it happens that the spirit has a dream in the realm of sleep whose purport comes to be exactly materialized two years hence! Likewise, how often it happens that in the world of dreams the spirit solves a problem that it could not solve in the realm of wakefulness. Awake, the eye sees only a short distance, but in the realm of dreams one who is in the East may see the West. Awake, he sees only the present; in sleep he beholds the future. Awake, by the fastest means he travels at most seventy miles in an hour; in sleep he traverses East and West in the blink of an eye. For the spirit has two modes of travel: without means, or spiritual travel, and with means, or material travel—as birds that fly, or as being carried in a vehicle." ‘Abdu’l‑Bahá6 For the past couple of days (except last night), I have read the Long Healing Prayer before going to sleep. I've experienced pleasant and spiritual dreams, but last night I didn't say the prayer. Instead, I went to sleep because I thought I was too sleepy to say the prayer. I did go to bed later than normal, however, I'm not sure that I was any sleepier before turning out the light. Since this prayer is on a smartphone app, I don't have to have a light or my prayer book to say the prayer. I didn't have spiritual or pleasant dreams last night, I'm not sure that I dreamed at all. So from now on, I read the Long Healing Prayer before going to sleep. I submitted the following comment to "Horror/Scary Newsletter (February 21, 2018)" : "I like the metaphor of the haunted house, because that is how depression feels. Thank you for emphasizing that depression can be treated."Before I do any more reviews or writing, I need to look at what I've accomplished so far this week. I've accomplished a lot, but I still have things to do before I can post a goals update to "Weekly Goals" . I've managed to keep up with "Invalid Item" , but today I found out I need to recheck the spelling of a words, especially those I think I know how to spell. I have the item on Pakistan started for "Invalid Item" , and I need to finish it either later today or on Thursday. I want to post that as my entry in "I Write in 2018" . Most everything else concerns the stuff I've been putting off.I submitted the following comment to "Spiritual Newsletter (February 21, 2018)" : Dreams are one proof of the immortality of the soul, because in them our souls can detect and comprehend things we can't understand in our waking moments. In dreams we can solve problems that we've been unable to deal with during our waking moments. "Every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God is endowed with such potency as can instill new life into every human frame, if ye be of them that comprehend this truth. All the wondrous works ye behold in this world have been manifested through the operation of His supreme and most exalted Will, His wondrous and inflexible Purpose. Through the mere revelation of the word “Fashioner,” issuing forth from His lips and proclaiming His attribute to mankind, such power is released as can generate, through successive ages, all the manifold arts which the hands of man can produce. This, verily, is a certain truth. Reading a quote or prayer will make me smile, and give me something to think about. I woke up in a good mood this morning, I wasn't depressed (weary feeling). It was only after I ate that this depression's weariness slipped up on me. I had instant oatmeal for breakfast with a side of canned fruit. Perhaps it was something I ate that caused me to be a little down. For the rest of the week, I'll have to look at what I eat and how it makes me feel. Istijlál (Majesty), 10 Mulk (Dominion) 174 B.E. - Thursday, February 15, 2018 Halfway Through Dominion 174 B.E. It is halfway through Dominion 174 B.E. Nine days have passed since the Feast of Mulk, the Feast of Dominion, and nine days remain until the beginning of Ayyám-i-Há, The Days of Há. Ayyám-i-Há, the intercalary days that occur just before ‘Alá’, the month of Fasting. ‘Alá’, the month of Loftiness, when those who are physically able fast between sunrise and sunset. I am 71 years old, so even if I was physically able, I am exempt from the nineteen-day Fast. However, I am not exempt from saying the prayer Baha'u'llah revealed for the Fast. Today I am thankful for the special prayers revealed by Baha'u'llah for Ayyám-i-Há and the Fast. Today is Istijlál, the day of Majesty. In the Baha'i, or the Badi, there is no one day a week exclusively dedicated to thanksgiving, gratitude, or praise. The prayers for praise and gratitude, revealed by the Bab and Baha'u'llah, can be said any day of the week. In fact, the Bab, Bah'u'llah, and 'Abdu'l-Baha8 encouraged us to proclaim are praise and gratitude to the Almighty every day. We are encouraged to be thankful all the time, and, to be, especially thankful in times of tests or adversity. Today I am thankful for the scriptures revealed by Baha'u'llah because they encourage thanksgiving and praise. Today I am thankful that I have accomplished the following goals. ‘Idál (Justice), 9 Mulk (Dominion) 174 B.E. - Wednesday, February 14, 2018 "Know thou of a certainty that Love is the secret of God’s holy Dispensation, the manifestation of the All-Merciful, the fountain of spiritual outpourings. Love is heaven’s kindly light, the Holy Spirit’s eternal breath that vivifieth the human soul. Love is the cause of God’s revelation unto man, the vital bond inherent, in accordance with the divine creation, in the realities of things. Love is the one means that ensureth true felicity both in this world and the next. Love is the light that guideth in darkness, the living link that uniteth God with man, that assureth the progress of every illumined soul. Love is the most great law that ruleth this mighty and heavenly cycle, the unique power that bindeth together the divers elements of this material world, the supreme magnetic force that directeth the movements of the spheres in the celestial realms. Love is the spirit of life unto the adorned body of mankind, the establisher of true civilization in this mortal world, and the shedder of imperishable glory upon every high-aiming race and nation." ‘Abdu’l‑Bahá9 Today is Valentine's Day, the day that many people celebrate one or two forms of love, physical love and, maybe, family love. Despite the fact that Valentine's Day was originally celebrated as a holy day for Saint Valentine, very few people think about divine love or the love of God. This is strange, because without the love of the Almighty noting would exists. Every atom of the universe reflects the love of God, and owes its existence to God. When the All-Bountiful Creator spoke BE at the beginning, everything was brought into existence. It was because of their love for God that both Christ and the Bab were executed. It was because of His love for the Almighty that Baha'u'llah was bound by chains and then exiled from His native land. It was because of his love for God through Christ that St. Valentine was beheaded on February 14, 278. It was because of her love for God through the Bab that Táhirih was strangled in September of 1852. It is because of their love for God through Baha'u'llah that the Baha'is in Iran refuse to recant their faith in spite of imprisonment and death threats. It is because of the love of God for His creation that life exists on Earth and in the rest of the universe. Footnotes |

Jamál Beauty), 6 Mulk (Dominion) 174 B.E. - Sunday, February 11, 2018 Prayer of Gratitude for Jamál the Day of Beauty Thank you All-Bountiful Creator It is Jamal, the Day of Beauty, on the Baha'i calendar. It is Sunday on the Gregorian, and the first day of a new week. Last week was interesting, I didn't get as much accomplished as I would have like; that was my own fault for wasting time. I got most of the writing finished that I planned. There were only two exceptions: (1) the essay for "Invalid Item" and editing chapters in "Scavengers" . As a results, I'm a bit depressed, but prayers and writing will take care of that.Influence of the Faith on arts "While it is quite true that individual artists such as Mark Tobey and others have undoubtedly been inspired and influenced by their love for the Revelation of Bahá'u'lláh, it is far too early in the Bahá'í Dispensation to talk about the influence of the Faith on the arts in general. Indeed the beloved Guardian himself has pointed out that there is, as yet, no such thing as Bahá'í art although there is no doubt from statements in the writings that a wonderful efflorescence of new and beautiful arts may be anticipated in the future." How has my faith in Baha'u'llah influenced my art? As one can see, from the poem at the beginning of this entry, my acceptance of Baha'u'llah, and His forerunner The Bab, has had some influence on my poetry. Precisely how much influence isn't something I can quantify. I know that I want to reflect the concepts proclaimed by Baha'u'llah in my art, but sometimes I fail. I'm not sure precisely why I fail, but I think it has something to do with the struggle between my soul and my ego. I know that my success is influenced by prayer, meditation, reading the sacred scriptures, and attempting (as much as possible) to obey the laws instituted by Baha'u'llah. Footnotes |
Istiqlál (Independence), 4 Mulk (Dominion) 174 B.E. - Friday, February 9, 32018 "Serve in the olive garden of God, that God may help thee by those confirmations by which intellects are astounded and the perceptions are cleared." ‘Abdu’l-Baha, Tablets of ‘Abdu’l-Baha, vol. 112 In the Garden In the Garden of Paradise, I started the above poem this morning, and than went on to do other writing, and non-writing activities. I'm not sure if the poem is finished, but I can't think of anything else to add right now. Therefore, I will leave it for the time being, and, may or may not, get back to it later. Today, I wasted some time, but I also did some writing. I could have gotten a lot more writing accomplished if I hadn't wasted so much time. What did I accomplished today? I wrote two poems "A Walk in China: Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong" and "How Great Thou Art" . I finished " Contemplating Justice" in "My Life Is A Poem" , and I made two blog entries "Fiction Friday: Where Have You Been?" and "Twice Below a Place" . I also did some reviews, unfortunately I didn't get as many review accomplished this week as I wanted. I'll have to see what I have to change before I post my review goals on Monday.What do I have to complete by 9:00 P.M. Pacific time on Sunday, February 11, or work on this weekend? ‘Idál (Justice), 2 Mulk (Dominion) 174 B.E. - Wednesday, February 7, 2018 Confirmations of the Holy Spirit "O ye beloved of Baha'! Do not look at your weakness, nay, rely upon the confirmation of the Holy Spirit. Verily, It maketh the weak strong, the lowly mighty, the child grown, the infant mature and the small great." ‘Abdu'l-Baha, Tablets of ‘Abdu'l-Baha, vol. 213 I have felt the confirmations of the Holy Spirit numerous times over the past several months. They come in little ways, which I think is the way it always happens. Some examples are idea for a poems or the feeling I should do something I have never tried before. Part of me is afraid; however, when I go ahead and try something new, it works out for the best. I know that, as long as, I continue to pray, read the sacred scriptures, and meditate I will continue to experience confirmations of the Holy Spirit. *** Wednesday Accomplishments It's been an interesting, and, somewhat, stressful morning. The stress came when I couldn't access my cox.net inbox. I called tech support, and the robot couldn't find my account number, so I pushed the button to talk to a human being. The young lady who helped me was polite and helpful. I could access my e-mail after that. I deleted some items before logging out. I have to get back in to delete more items, but I'll do that slowly over the next few days. This morning, I said the Long Healing Prayer before getting up. After I got up, I checked my bank account, and then logged into writing.com. I have managed to review a few items and read two news letters. After reading the newsletters I sent comments to each one. I still have a lot of writing, so I need to get on with that and do some more reviewing. I submitted this response to "Comedy Newsletter (February 7, 2018)" . "After moving my old XP machine, twice, I finally got rid of it. I took it to a salvage place. Now I have more room on my desk, and (if I ever decide to move again) I have only one machine to take with me.'I submitted this response to "Spiritual Newsletter (February 7, 2018)" . "'Abdu'l-Baha, the eldest son of Baha'u'llah, made an impression on me, and many others, by demonstrating spiritual values. When he visited America in 1912, he treated everyone he met with equal respect and kindness. It didn't matter to him whether the person was rich or poor, black or white, male or female, or if they were a follower of any religion. They were still human beings and deserved to be respected. Today, many Baha'is look to 'Abdu'l-Baha as an example of how a person should treat others."Despite the slow start, today was a good day. Wrote three poem, one in my blog "I Am a Feminist" , one for the daily poem challenge "Wallpaper" , and the last for the Construction Cup Challenge "Huā Yuán " . I still have three Contest Challenges to catch-up for July and November 2017, and January 2018. I have to work on those, but I think I'm going to spend the rest of the day reviewing. Daily response to "Invalid Item" prompt. Do items for "Invalid Item" . Post 2 or 3 entries in Poet999 - A Butterfly Emerges From Her Cocoon15 Respond to prompt from "Blogging Circle of Friends " , "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise" , or "The Daily Poem" at least once or twice during the week. Review at least 35 items during the week.Goals for February not posted to "Weekly Goals" Finish poem in "Bicentenary Poems and Prose" and/or poem in "The History of the Divine Feminine" . Read articles in "God Speaks Again" http://bahaiteachings.org/series/god-speaks-again.Despite the fact that this morning started out a bit rough, the afternoon appears to have smoothed out. I can focus on the things I need to do. I have accomplished quit a bit, but I still have more to do. I posted responses in "Melting Snow" to both prompts from both "Blogging Circle of Friends " and "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise" . I finished today's poem for "Invalid Item" , posted it in "Construct Cup Poems" under "Gold" and to the forum. I finished two more items on the February "Invalid Item" .I did a search for information about Malaysia for "Invalid Item" , and found 5 websites. I may need to do another search for myths or legends if I don't find anything I want to write about in these websites. I'm doing alright with the review goal for this week. I completed 2 qualified reviews yesterday, which means I only have 33 to go.Footnotes |
Jamál (Beauty), 18 Sulṭán (Sovereignty) 174 B.E. - Sunday, February 4, 2018 This morning, I finished an entry in "Welcome to My Life" "Thou hast, moreover, asked Me concerning the state of the soul after its separation from the body. Know thou, of a truth, that if the soul of man hath walked in the ways of God, it will, assuredly, return and be gathered to the glory of the Beloved. By the righteousness of God! It shall attain a station such as no pen can depict, or tongue describe. The soul that hath remained faithful to the Cause of God, and stood unwaveringly firm in His Path shall, after his ascension, be possessed of such power that all the worlds which the Almighty hath created can benefit through him. Such a soul provideth, at the bidding of the Ideal King and Divine Educator, the pure leaven that leaveneth the world of being, and furnisheth the power through which the arts and wonders of the world are made manifest. Consider how meal needeth leaven to be leavened with. Those souls that are the symbols of detachment are the leaven of the world. Meditate on this, and be of the thankful." I have to admit, that when I read that quote, and the other scriptures quoted in the article, I felt and still feel some trepidation. I still feel some apprehension, because I am aware of how I have fallen short of God's Glory in the past and the present. There is nothing I can do about that except pray for forgiveness and attempt, with the help of Baha'u'llah, to do better. I just have to take it one-day-at-a-time, and keep trying to live as close to the commands of Baha'u'llah as I possibly can. *** According to the calendar, in my Baha'i Datebook, it is the beginning of a new week. I have always felt that a new week is a new chance to accomplish something great, or at least a time to renew my effort to accomplish my goals. I tend to make more goals than I can complete in a week or even a month. I know my weakness, but I don't know my limits. I always think I can accomplish more in a week than I really can. I will just have to deal with this weakness, and keep working to accomplish the goals I have established. In January, I established 18 goals to accomplish during 2018, and placed those goals in "Dear Me" . On February 1, I in "Thankful Thursday: First Thankful Thursday in February 2018" I posted 9 things I wanted to accomplish in February. I accomplished one of those items last week. I entered "Worldwide News Stories" in "Stormy's poetry newsletter & contest" , which leaves only 8 more of February's goals to accomplish. I'm doing alright keeping up with the rest of those 8 goals, but I haven't looked at "Dear Me" yet this month. In addition, I haven't posted an entry in my offsite blog since the end of January. I have to post 2 or 3 entries in that this week. I, also, have to get back to review more than 1 item a day. Submit to "I Write in 2018" each week. Baha’u’llah19 World Citizenship To me Reviewing My Week It's Friday, I've posted to "Weekly Goals" , and stated that I accomplished my review goals and wrote several poems. Those are the things I accomplished on my too large goal list. I have to cut the list down, while keeping it large enough to push me. On Monday, January 29, I listed 12 items; this is too many to accomplish in seven day, much less five or six. Yesterday, February 1, I put 9 items to accomplish this month. Some of those items were things I have to do everyday, while others I could do just once a week. I'm sure I can accomplish those 9 things this month. I don't know how much more I will accomplish in February, I'll just have to wait until February 28 to find out.Footnotes |

First, I am thankful that we (De and I) were able to go to a breakfast buffet this morning before going to the bank and paying the rent. Second, I am thankful that we I was able to pay the rent today. Third, I am thankful to my sister for the assistance she gives me each month. Fourth, I am thankful for the frustrating and/pr interesting events in my life that inspire some of my blog entries. Fifth, I am thankful that the temperature in Las Vegas at 12:18 P.M. Pacific Standard Time is a refreshing 70 degrees Fahrenheit. "In this age of spiritual awakening, the world has entered upon the path of progress into the arena of development, where the power of the spirit surpasses that of the body. Soon the spirit will have dominion over the world of humanity." ‘Abdu'l-Bahá20 Gratitude List: Part 2 Sixth, I am thankful for the above quote from 'Abdu'l-Baha because it gives me hope, and shows me that humanity will eventually solve the issues facing it today and pass through the present difficulties. Seventh, I am thankful for Canada Dry Ginger Ale because it is made from real ginger. Eighth, I am thankful for the chocolate candy bar I have laying next to me on the computer desk. I will eat it before I go to bed because chocolate helps me sleep. Ninth, I am thankful that February started on a Thursday so that I can begin the month in a grateful and positive mood.
