My thoughts released; a mind set free |
|
These pages contain my thoughts, from meandering ideas and persuasions to deep cerebrations and serious mentations. Why, for what purpose? To release my mind and set creativity free. Somewhere inside the constraints of my mind dwells a writer, a poet, an artist who paints with words. In here, I release those constraints and set the artist free. Perhaps, lost somewhere in the depths of thought, is a story or a poem, waiting to be written. |

"I just had an epiphany!" You excitedly ask, "What is it?" I answer smart-assedly, "It's a moment of sudden revelation." With a scornful look, you state, "That was a little bit funny in a previous entry, but don't you think it's time for some new material?" "You, Dear Reader, are right. I should be ashamed of myself; I'm not, but I should be." Anyway, enough of the dialogue. It's time to reveal my latest epiphany. I had just read something about storage needs and the high cost of lumber in building shelves for storage. A few years ago, I was in the right place at the right time and was able to take a Rubbermaid, 7'x 7' shed off the hands of the local high school. It needed new glass (plexiglass) in some of the windows, and the latch on the door was busted; both were easily fixed. The shed didn't provide enough storage area, so we continued to rent a storage unit about a mile down the road. It's close and convenient, but it's $100.00 a month. Money that could be used for other things if we had more storage space. That is my epiphany: to make a storage unit so we don't have to rent one. But with the high cost of lumber, it's not feasible to build a shed. However, I purchased a very cheap fifth-wheel camper a few years back that I was going to fix up, a Hi-Lo camper that had a lot of water damage. I have it fixed insofar as it doesn't leak anymore, but it still needs to be finished off. Also, the damage was enough that it's not possible to lower and raise the top without risk of creating leaks again. The plan was to anchor the top in the raised position, do the finishing work inside, and use it that way. However, I was informed that it didn't tow well in the raised position by the person I purchased it from. This has been a concern; do I want to put a lot of time and money into it only to find it's not practical to tow and use? After my cancer diagnosis a year ago (close enough to a year now), I decided I didn't want to waste time fixing that camper up. So far, I'm cancer-free, but it was a wake-up call about how short and precious life is, and I don't want to spend a lot of time fixing that camper up only to find we can't use it without problems. Instead, we looked, found, and purchased another fifth-wheel camper that's ready to use as is. So, what to do with the Hi-Lo? Our first thoughts were to sell it, or at least, try to sell it. I'm sure someone with more experience than I have could fix it up. But, for the three hundred bucks I paid for it, and the few hundred bucks I put into it, I could strip it down inside and use it for storage. I'm sure I could sell the stove, A/C unit, refrigerator, and furnace for more than I put into the camper. Even if I don't sell the appliances, if I move the items from storage into the empty camper (I already have shelves in the storage unit), I would save $100.00 a month, meaning the camper would pay for itself and what I've put into it in about six months. I have ample room to park it next to the garage, out of the way, yet close enough to run power to it for the lights. I can either sell the appliances or hang on to them just in case something needs replacing in our new camper. It has about the same amount of storage area as our storage unit, and everything now in storage should fit. Not only would I save a hundred bucks a month, but I would also have everything stored right here. The storage unit needs to be cleaned, organized, and everything gone through, so it would be a great time to do that as we move items from there to here. Not quite now, but as soon as it gets a little warmer. We should be able to have everything done by the end of April. |
