I try not to comment on other countries issues, after all, the crisis that is happening in the US has no bearing on my life here in Australia. But, your piece deserves to be acknowledged.
I used to own hunting rifles, but then on 28th April, 1996, everything changed, when a person, I refuse to name, decided to take aim upon and kill, 35 innocent men, women and children (with coincidentally, an AR15 ArmaLite).
Many more were injured that terrible day, and the government of the time did something that, all theses years later, has proven that in fact, it is guns that kill people.
There hasn't been another massacre since, and the reason is, I believe, that the population was disarmed. A buy back scheme saw millions of weapons crushed, and since then, there are regular amnesties to hand in illegal and unregistered weapons.
Sure, there's still guns out there, and to pretend otherwise is ridiculous, but a kid who is having a hard time at school can't go to his parents bedside drawer and take a concealable firearm, go to school and do something any civilized society should be ashamed of.
I don't know what the answer is...when a country is so afraid that it cannot acknowledge the statistic that owning a gun does not protect you, but actually increases the likelihood of being killed by a gun...often with that very gun.
From the outside looking in, the US is at war...with itself.
Axe throwing lessons? Wow. That goes right up there alongside my wish to learn to joust and archery. It's a serious skill.
No offense to the people of Missouri, but when I drove through there years ago, I couldn't help but think it was the ugliest state in the U.S. So I feel you.
One hundred-twenty-two days ago I mailed my sister a Christmas card. It was sent it to the half-way house in which she was recovering after court ordered sanctions. Today, April 20, 2022, the Christmas card was returned to sender. My addict sister was discharged for insubordination from the halfway house days before the card arrived for violating house rules. Four months later, my unopened message of health, hope and sobriety has come back, unread and unopened. In those 122 days, my sister was fired twice, stole and wrecked my sister’s car (without insurance and no driver’s license) and falsely claimed her son as a dependent when filing her taxes – resulting in a H&R Block’s flagging of her account as unethically UN-reputable . She has found solace on numerous couches, while sucking society’s teat. Where does it end?
