I'm not sure yet what it'll turn into, but I'm going to have fun figuring it out.

I agree that if there is love, respect should be in it also. How can it be separate?
I hope your niece recovers very soon. She is lucky because she has such a great family, a caring aunt, and wonderful siblings. Have a happy Thanksgiving!

So beautiful and heartening to read of your love of your family members!
I like warm, too; not hot, not cold. Unfortunately, where I am we are rarely warm or lukewarm. Mostly hot with a few days of somewhat cold in the dead of winter.

That is terrible. Your poor family! The city governments need to take better action with their drainage systems. That is something that concerns me a lot. In 2018, in Paris when the Seine rose up, due to rain, all the basements around it were flooded, which made the basement rats go up the buildings. Most people were made to evacuate, but when the floods receded, they came back to unbelievable looting and broken windows and doors. The outcomes of floods are horrible.

First, this is not up to me, but since your entry seems to ask for opinions, I'd say why worry about something you have no say over? I know this is difficult under the circumstances, but the decision is for your sister and her husband to make. Whatever they decide, they'll have to handle the results of their decision. You can only help when the result is in the open.

A second possibility is that the ultrasound may not be showing exactly what is there. I know a couple who thought they were getting one kid and ended up with twins. Then, what the ultrasounds, x-rays, etc. show depends on the doctor who interprets what he sees. I hope it is nothing but the doctor's wrong interpretation, but he/she might be right, too.

Also, sometimes, nature takes care of itself. So, please don't worry before anything happens. You'll only cloud your own life.

Yes, it is always helpful to stretch out. You are right about being too close to something. Some things in my life I am still not able to write about like the Vietnam War or 9/11, let alone read a book referring to them. In fact, if I see a book hinting at such a situation in it, I'll skip reading it.

I am with you on this. Aristotle probably wanted his ideas or debates understood easily for the people of his day. Also, sometimes, wise thoughts cannot be expressed in simple words, even if we can show those ideas in character action. Still, I believe in using an easily understandable language, but for that end, I am not going to give up a good piece of prose expressed through better vocabulary.

What is your most treasured work memory?

I think it might be a time that came while I wasn't working. I was in the university library, using a computer and this young man came up to me. He thanked me for being his freshman English teacher and told me that I had been one of the defining teachers of his college career. It was surreal, mostly because I did remember him, vaguely. I think he was a B student, someone who I enjoyed reading. He was part of a class that was full of good students. But he remembered me, and that was just amazing.

That's the only time that it's happened to me, but I think I'd love to be able to do that for some of my old teachers.
